TAKE THAT STEP!
If there is anything worse than not having a dream or a vision for your life, it is actually dreaming or planning without the will and courage to take the first step towards actualizing such dream.
Studying the lives of great entrepreneurs and successful people, I discovered that their greatest obstacle was the fear of taking the first step into a future that looked so bleak and full of risks to scare even the most hardened mind.
Robert T. Kiyosaki famously wrote, “As with any learning process, even learning to walk or ride a bicycle, the start of the process is always the hardest. “ In other words, the greatest hindrance to success, more dreadful than risks and uncertainties, is the fear of starting.
Athletes, especially sprinters, know from experience, that starting well is the key to continuing and ending well. But most importantly, is actually taking the first step towards actualizing and realizing your dream.
The hard truth is this: you will never move forward if you don’t take the first step! Your dreams and ambitions are as realistic as your first actual step. No matter how lofty your ambitions and dreams are, the only way you can score a goal is to set the ball rolling. The most realistic way to build a castle or mansion is to lay the first building block.
Do you want to write a book?Write the outline and start the first sentence! Are you planning an event?Start gathering and organizing relevant resources! Do you want to be an entrepreneur? Start with a feasibility study of your market environment! Do you want to become great in life? Start developing and maximizing your God-given potentials!
How then can you face your fear of starting and move forward to your desired goal? How do you take the first necessary steps towards your dreams? I would suggest the following principles or strategies if you want to move forward in life:
1. SEE the end from the beginning…
There is always a light at the end of the funnel if you don’t allow fear to blind you. If you can picture success in any endeavour you are about to start, you will no doubt capture that it as you take the first necessary steps to your destination.
Napoleon Hill said, "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve."
2. TAKE one step at a time…
Is it not amazing that only one step is possible at a time,no matter how long the destination can be? That is to say, the whole process or journey is a combination of successive talks or steps taken in the right direction. A serious misconception you can have about success is to define your productivity as a function of your activity.
According to an old Chinese proverb, “It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.”
3. EXPECT challenges along the way…
A bend in the road is not the end of the road. Fact, a bend(most especially sharp ones) should increase your sense of alertness to possible crashes! Hence, inevitable challenges, controversies, pains and problems associated with your endeavour are not meant to destroy you. They are meant to develop your moral, physical, spiritual emotional and mental fibre.
Frankly speaking, if there are no challenges on your path,it probably means you are headed the wrong way, or nobody is feeling your impact.
Zig Ziglar, the foremost motivational speaker and trainer advised us to “Expect the best. Prepare for the worst, and capitalize on what comes.”
4. PRESS on…
Pastor Taiwo Odukoya once said, “It is not really your circumstance that is the problem. The problem is your attitude.” Generally speaking, a positive, ‘CAN-DO’ attitude will take you through challenges which come your way. A positive attitude will fill you with boldness, courage, perseverance and stamina to weather the inevitable storms of life.
It is high time you faced your fears with faith! It is high time you took the first step in the right direction!
Remember, "Vision without action is daydream. Action without vision is nightmare." -Chantelle Botha
Do you want to live your dream?Take that first step!
