MAKING OF A LEGEND

Some years ago, I got hold of a book written by my good friend and mentor, Adeosun ‘Tallest’ Oluyemi, titled, EMPOWER YOURSELF, and my life took a positive turnaround. The book served as the pivotal element for my life and ministry as a motivator. Below is an excerpt which I have always read, meditated and acted upon, which I’m sure you will find inspirational:

“As a man, when you pass through a place, your footprints must be identified. That is to say, you must have made an outstanding or remarkable contribution in the life of someone or many people. Somebody must be able to thank God you came twenty-five years after you have left. It does not matter how lengthy or briefly you stay in a place; you can leave a legacy behind. Whatever your chosen career or vocation, you should be able to end up a legend in your chosen field.

The making of a legend is a process that entails the discovery of our existence. Existence in the sense that we must understand why we have life and what living is all about. Everyone is born a legend but not everyone is made a legend. The process of becoming a legend begins when life is rediscovered and existence is defined.

The discovery of purpose is a lifetime process, likewise is the fulfillment of purpose. Fulfillment in life is intimately intertwined with purpose. Knowing one’s purpose is not as hard as some people tend to see it. Neither is purpose necessarily something you know all about in just one sitting. Purpose unfolds gradually and each experience you have somehow prepares you for the next phase of purpose of your life.

Somehow you know it when you hit it. You just know this was what you were born to do. You have always seen the picture in your heart, just that you could not draw it out. But when you now see it or something close to it, something in you leaps for joy. It’s something you will really like doing. You will really be passionate about it. Yes, just like love, many waters will not be able to quench it. Lack of funds will not be able to deter you nor force you into quitting. Because it is in you, location will not be a barrier, for you will be able to create opportunities with it.

You may not have the map but you have the compass. There is this calm you feel at heart. Call it intuition if you like. When you are on that path, you will never lack inspiration to forge ahead with the dream. The truth is this: anything else may leave you. People may leave you but your dream will always remain with you. When you live your dream, you add value to the lives of those around you. You need to keep developing yourself so that you may end up a model of excellence.

When you live your dream with excellence, you become a legend in the long run. Yes, a legend! The legend never dies. The works of the legend appeals to all generations. His impact is perpetual because his work is immortal.

YOU WERE BORN A LEGEND. WILL YOU DIE A LEGEND?”
